Created in consultation with our Style Director, this guide will help you discover the most flattering sunglasses and glasses frames for your face shape.

The principle is simple: choose a frame that balances your facial structure.  

In this guide, we explore the five key silhouettes – round, oval, square, heart, and diamond – and reveal the best Cutler and Gross glasses for your face shape.

Marie Wilkinson, Cutler and Gross Style Director, shares how to know what face shape you have:

“Stand in front of a mirror with your hair pulled back off your face and look at your reflection. What shape do you see? Pay particular attention to your forehead, cheekbones, and jaw – are they angular? curved? wide? narrow? To make it easier you could draw around your reflection with a lipstick.”

A round face shape: your face is fairly symmetrical with full cheeks and a curved jawline.

An oval face shape: your face is longer than it is wide, your forehead being the broadest part.

A square face shape: your forehead, cheekbones and jaw will be of similar width, and you will have defined, angular features.

A heart face shape: your face is widest at the forehead, with high cheekbones and a narrow chin.

A diamond face shape: your cheekbones are the widest part of your face, balanced by a narrow forehead and pointy chin.

A round face shape: your face is fairly symmetrical with full cheeks and a curved jawline.

Balance your rounded features with angular silhouettes such as a square or rectangular frame.

Consider the 1402, 1386 and 1410 Cutler and Gross glasses.

An oval face shape: your face is longer than it is wide, your forehead being the broadest part.

Symmetrical by nature, oval face shapes suit the broadest variety of frames.

Consider the 1409 Cutler and Gross glasses, which offset a curved browbar with a nick at the side to expose the cheekbones. A lowered hinge, as seen on the Lucky Diamond I glasses, draws the eye width-ways, which is flattering for oval and heart faces.

A square face shape: your forehead, cheekbones and jaw will be of similar width, and you will have defined, angular features.

Compliment your sharpened features with softened edges and curved frames.

Consider the 9261 Cutler and Gross glasses and sunglasses or, if you prefer square frames, opt for the chubby 1402 with rounded edges.

A heart face shape: your face is widest at the forehead, with high cheekbones and a narrow chin.

Balance your narrower chin with the width of a rectangle frame.

A diamond face shape: your cheekbones are the widest part of your face, balanced by a narrow forehead and pointy chin.

Frames that taper away at the edges, such as a cat-eye, are particularly flattering.

The most flattering glasses and sunglasses mirror the shape of your brow, creating harmony between the lines of your face and those of the frame.

If you have relatively straight eyebrows, opt for a frame with a straightened browline, such as the 0822 Cutler and Gross glasses or The Great Frog Dagger glasses.

If your eyebrows are curved, consider the GR04 Cutler and Gross glasses or, at the extreme end of the spectrum, the GR01 Cutler and Gross glasses.
